Data backup for manufacturing industry
What is a ‘full hard drive backup’ and how does it work?
-
Kbes will make an individual hard drive copy of every manufacturing machine on
your factory floor.
-
The new drive will then be installed in the machine and the machine will be
tested to ensure functionality.
-
he old drive will be labeled and taken to your spares location for your use
whenever you require it.
-
An extra option provided by Kbes at your request is to make two hard drive
backups for each machine and one of these backups will be held offsite at a
Kbes location.
-
Kbes provide six monthly or yearly contracts
Why use ‘full hard drive backups’ in Manufacturing
-
Average life of a hard drive in a manufacturing environment is four years, so
you will suffer a hard drive failure on your manufacturing floor this year.
-
If a hard drive fails on a machine and you don’t have the software onsite it
could be two to three days before the replacement software is delivered,
leaving you with massive downtime costs.
-
If a hard drive fails on an older machine and you don’t have the software
onsite it maybe impossible to source the software, it is now impossible to
repair your machine, forcing you to source a replacement machine.
-
If a hard drive fails and you do have your backups and operating software
onsite, it will still take your engineers at least four hours to reinstall all
the software and backups onto the new hard drive. In the case of having a ‘full
hard dive backup’ it a simple swap out the old drive and put in the new drive,
maximum downtime of thirty minutes.
-
The backup hard drive can be used as a simple troubleshooting tool, if you have
a fault on a machine and you want to rule out the hard drive and the software,
your technicians can simply replace the hard drive.
-
Replacing a hard drive can be performed by the lowest level technician,
completely reloading the software to a new drive will probably require your
most experienced engineer or even require the involvement of the machine
vendors.
-
If you moving or shipping machines, it is a must to ensure that your hard drive
doesn’t get damaged, however if it does having a ‘full hard drive backup’ will
ensure that you won’t suffer excess downtime after the installation of the
machine.
-
As it is the new hard drive that is installed into the machine, it is less
likely that the hard drive will fail, ensuring less down time on your
manufacturing lines.
